Mediation to Begin for Misdemeanor Jury Trials

Effective April 12, 2017, the Circuit Court for Baltimore City is offering mediation for certain misdemeanor cases through the Community Mediation Center. If a jury trial is prayed in the District Court, and defense counsel would like to explore having the case resolved by way of mediation, counsel may refer the matter (no firearms, narcotics, or domestic violence cases) to the Community Mediation Center. If the State’s Attorney’s Office consents to mediation, experienced mediators will bring the defendant and victim together to try and resolve the matter short of a trial. See attached documents for the protocol and additional information.
