Prohibited Items

Jurors are not allowed to bring the following items:

Cameras, penknives, flashlights, scissors, craft needles (e.g., knitting, crocheting, etc.), aerosol or spray fragrances, tools (e.g., screwdrivers, saws, etc.), clothing carried in bags and the like, ammunition and weapons of any type (including toy weapons). These items are strictly forbidden and will be confiscated by the Sheriff’s Department. You may be ejected from the building or arrested if found in violation.

Electronic Devices

Jurors are permitted to use laptops and other electronic devices in Jury Assembly areas. Cell phones and pagers are allowed, however they must be turned off or set on vibrate.  No electronic device may be used in any courtroom.  Persons caught transmitting images or messages in a courtroom will be arrested. See here.

Electronic devices cannot be brought into the jury deliberation room. If you violate this restriction, your electronic device may be confiscated by security or other court personnel, and you may be arrested.

While you are on jury service, including while you are in the jury assembly area, you may not use your electronic device to research, investigate or communicate regarding any case for which you might serve on the jury. You may not, for example, research a case using online media outlets or other websites. You also may not communicate about a case on a blog or other social networking including, but not limited to Twitter, text, instant messaging, telephone or email. For more information, see here.

If you use your electronic device to listen to music, videos, etc., you must use headphones so you do not disturb courthouse staff or your fellow jurors.

Other Acceptable Items

Jurors are permitted to bring reading materials and other electronic devices for personal entertainment. Headphones must be worn in the assembly areas if listening to music, videos, etc. You may also want to bring a sweater or a jacket since the temperature varies throughout the Courthouse.

Jurors are permitted to bring and eat their lunch in any of the jury assembly areas, however, food and drinks are not permitted inside of the courtrooms. There are NO refrigerators or microwaves available for juror use.

Jurors are permitted to bring medication and personal medical equipment (i.e. seat cushion, wheelchair, etc.). However, meals or medications requiring refrigeration should be carried in insulated bags (or some other appropriate means).
